Joyce Penland – CFRE

Joyce Penland joined Lee+ Associates in 2008, after more than 30 years in university advancement. She offers extensive experience in capital campaigns, annual giving, major giving, job searches, development assessments, strategic planning, and board development.  Joyce enjoys helping nonprofits develop innovative solutions to their development challenges.

Joyce developed her expertise in donor relations and volunteer management as Alumni Director at her alma mater, Illinois State University, where she also served as Assistant Director of Admissions. Later, in her role as Director of Development at Trinity University for more than 20 years, she managed all aspects of its fundraising operation. At Trinity, she helped boost membership in leadership annual giving programs and helped set the stage for Trinity’s $200 million capital campaign.

She has been an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and is a former board member of the national association’s Foundation for Philanthropy. Joyce achieved the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) status in 1993 and was awarded AFP San Antonio’s Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award in 1998.

Joyce sits on the board of Magdalena House, a transitional home that serves mothers and their children who have fled dangerous and abusive situations, and is a former member of the Achievers’ Center for Education.

Her academic background includes a Master’s degree in counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in communication that equips her for work on crafting case materials for clients and in editing the Lee+ Associates monthly e-newsletter.

Joyce and her husband enjoy travel and outdoor activities, and have a son and daughter-in-law, twin granddaughters, a grandson and a lovable “grand dog.”
